Dr. O’Sullivan attended Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School before getting his training in Pediatrics and Pediatric Pulmonology at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA. From 1990-2015 he was at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA, where he was Professor of Pediatrics, Cystic Fibrosis Center Director, and Associate Vice-Provost for Research.  He spent 15 years as Chair of the Committee for Protection of Human Subjects in Research (IRB) at UMass. Dr. O’Sullivan has published extensively on CF-related issues with an emphasis on inflammation in CF and newborn screening issues.  In 2011, he completed a Fellowship in Medical Ethics at the Harvard School of Public Health and has co-authored several papers on sustainability of high cost therapies for orphan diseases.
